Uganda Revenue Authority on July 21, passed out 100 staff members who completed a one-month training in fraud prevention and detection.

The function, that took place at the URA training center, saw participants awarded certificates of completion. The course, meant to equip URA staff with skills to detect and prevent fraud, is expected to help the tax body boost it revenue collection activities - a target that URA has set for itself this financial year.
The training was conducted by Ernst and Young, Certified Public Accountant firm specialised in forensic auditing.

Speaking at the function, Commissioner of Internal Audit, Tax Investigations and Internal Affairs, Moses Kajubi said the Course was in line with URA's prosecution policy.
URA has started taking defaulters to the courts of law and deemed it necessary to impart such competencies to its staff for effectiveness.

"It was conducted after a training needs assessment which revealed that there was a gap in prosecution and therefore need for training," he Kajubi.

The training covered areas of fraud understanding, fraud commission, control of fraud, fraud investigation, money laundering, tax risk assessment and analysis, and how to provide evidence of fraud at the courts of law.
